Popcorn Time heading towards permanent closure

Definitive closure in sight for Popcorn Time: Hollywood majors have initiated legal actions, winning them all in several countries.

Popcorn Time is about to become just a memory in the “web memory” of its users.
The definitive closure of PopCorn Time, a site that offered streaming but pirated content, is now certain news.
The most famous American film and television majors, all united in the trade association called “Motion Picture Association of America”, have marked the end of PopCorn Time.
On October 9, 2015, this group of companies filed a regular complaint against the ownership and representatives of PopCorn Time, lodging it with the Federal Court of Canada.
The judge called to rule on this case then ordered the closure of the service and the platform.
After this operation, for some time only a European “section” of PopCorn Time was accessible: this is, in other words, a Spanish domain.
However, in this case too, the hours appear to be numbered but operationally it is already possible to speak of a definitive closure of streaming activities.
The battle of Hollywood majors against PopCorn Time, however, did not stop there: it was decided to proceed legally also through a New Zealand court, this time however against the yts.to platform.

This is indeed a Torrent site, also accused of having facilitated the practice of copyright infringement.
In this case, it is learned that – it seems – a solution of an out-of-court nature was found which, however, led to the same outcome hoped for by the global cinema companies: the closure of the torrent site.
Certainly, given the extreme dynamism of developers and communities that revolve around apps and always very “appealing” content, new developments and alternatives will not be long in coming.
However, the path taken by film companies has created a very strong precedent, so it is clear that the war on this front will always be open.
