PlayStation 4 “Orbis” arriving in December: new rumors

Sony could already launch the new PlayStation 4, also known as Orbis, in December 2012. Here are the first rumors about its technical features.

There are the first substantial rumors about PlayStation 4, codename “Orbis“: it seems that its arrival will not be long in coming.
The reference month is December 2012, as already hinted some time ago here on FullPress, perfectly in time to hope to become the most popular Christmas gift for the holidays.
Its big launch is therefore expected in the first part of 2013, when games and other content suitable for the new PlayStation 4.
Although everything is still under study and shrouded in the strictest secrecy, some information has already leaked, particularly regarding the technical features that Orbis might have.
The codename alone suggests that this new PlayStation will be something between a classic game console and a device capable of detecting players’ movements, perhaps also exploiting connectivity with smartphones, tablets, and mobile.
devices. So, a more complete and “global” competitor to Kinect or Nintendo’s WiiU could be on the horizon, embodied by Sony’s new device.
So far, nothing particularly new compared to what was anticipated in our previous article. However, further news comes regarding hardware: it seems the CPU will be AMD x64 and – even more interesting – the graphics capability will be remarkable, starting with the AMD Southern Island graphics chips: sources close to the Kotaku portal even mention a possible 4K resolution, corresponding to 4096×2160 pixels.

Remarkable figures that certainly outline a future increasingly focused on high definition. For this reason, however, it seems very likely that – and this may not please those using the PlayStation 3 – games for the current console will probably not be compatible with PlayStation 4 Orbis.
One will therefore have to entirely rebuild their collection, purchasing new titles physically or downloading them from the official Store.
Not much else is known about PlayStation 4 and it is probably premature to draw conclusions or make guesses about its appeal based on these few details.
