On May 3rd at the NH Hotel Fiera Milano, the 11th Edition of M2M Forum 2012 takes off, the leading event in the machine to machine sector, this year characterized by a strong focus on energy, particularly Smart Grids and Smart Metering.
M2M Forum has always offered high-level agendas and aims to become the main showcase for machine-to-machine solutions for the recovery and sustainable development of the country, a highly specialized event in M2M solutions for vertical sectors such as: energy management, remote monitoring and management of plants, automotive, security, smart city.
Smart Grid and M2M, the first two building blocks to create the sustainable near future of Smart Cities — this is the focus that, with the presence of Alberto Biancardi, Commissioner, Authority for Electricity and Gas and other authoritative figures from the telecommunications and energy sectors gathered here in one event, will highlight how the Country System’s action towards Smart Grids is still in its early stages but is already preparing for the Smart Cities revolution, a technological area destined to become increasingly strategic over the next 10 years and that involves the intelligent use of available resources and technologies.
Gianluigi Ferri, CEO of Innovability and organizer of the Forum, states “There is still much to be done to bring public utility infrastructures to the levels expected by the new scenarios and many investments are needed, especially in a difficult period like this. Awareness is growing that virtuous models of smart cities in Italy can only be partly inspired by other European or global realities, they will instead need to take into account the peculiarities and characteristics of our territorial and economic system as well as regulatory and normative constraints. Conversely, from a technological point of view, international comparison shows that in many cases, starting from our excellence in the M2M world, we have offered solutions more advanced than others; the task now is to make them politically operational to reach the expected goals sooner, carefully analyzing needs and priorities for the development and spread of Smart Grids/Smart Cities in Italy.”
Creating, securing, and managing the “Cloud of Things” is another hot and important topic, within which the benefits of using Cloud services and the challenges that still need to be overcome and solved to truly deliver large-scale M2M Cloud services will be discussed.
Additional focus on the thematic area covered in the session “New M2M Business Models and Market Opportunities for Operators and VCs” which will analyze development opportunities in the M2M world across various vertical sectors that are becoming “infinite” driven by the reduction of costs for modules, sensors, and by the greater reliability and coverage of networks.
“In this session we want to analyze the difficult relationship between the M2M world and VCs / Business Angels which suffers from difficulties in obtaining funding due to the general recession but also the unclear positioning of M2M players between classic industrial automation and the new web industry. In particular, Italian VCs/BAs are often attracted by domestic copycats of famous American web 2.0 startups, which are unlikely to have lasting success and instead overlook more solid M2M companies that quietly grow and export, often only self-financing.”Gianluigi Ferri further stresses.
So, the appointment is on May 3rd with M2M Forum 2012, to understand the current market and development trends of the machine-to-machine sector. A fixed point on the state of the art of technologies and applications made so far in Italy, but above all a look at business models and future challenges awaiting Italian and foreign operators.
Participation in the event is free for visitors and reserved for industry operators, until seats are exhausted. For online registration: http://www.m2mforum.it/
