Additional new features for the Periscope app upon its debut on Android devices.
It hasn’t been too long since the team working on the Periscope app promised its release also on the Android platform.
The application, created for instant sharing of live video, had indeed been launched initially only for iOS devices, leaving the numerous Android community wanting.
However, the wait was quite short, only two months: Periscope for Android has been released, thus allowing the distribution and viewing of streaming video also on smartphones running on the operating system developed by Google.
Beyond the news itself, it will be interesting to know that the Android app presents some differences compared to the same app for iOS.
There are indeed some extra functionalities, and as of this writing, it is not yet possible to know if these will be integrated on iPhone as well, or if they will remain a sort of exclusive for Android.
You will be able to manage the various notifications individually and in a more “personalized” way, thus achieving a certain energy saving on the battery.
Most notably, the feature that allows you to return with a single click – and therefore very quickly – to the streaming video, at the moment when you had to interrupt viewing to read an incoming SMS or answer a phone call, has made its debut. This is “Resume notification”, currently not present in the iOS app.
Finally, the “First Time Broadcast Notifications” and “Share Notifications” functions have also been activated. The first is useful for being informed that one of our Twitter contacts has started their first live video sharing via Periscope.
“Share Notifications”, on the other hand, allows you to know if someone has shared the live streaming of a contact who is using Periscope. The app can be used by all Android devices with operating system version 4.4 or later.
