A revolution is in sight and coming to the video platform YouTube: there is talk of the upcoming introduction of sections of the site that will become paid.
This has been discussed for many months, but according to the editorial team of the always well-informed “The Verge,” the turning point is said to be just around the corner.
Even within 2015, at least two paid YouTube services could already see the light of day.
In fact, we are talking about a novelty in the field of music and a new section that would only gather content definable as “premium”.
In the latter case, it would involve videos conceived exclusively for a paid service of this kind: upon payment of a subscription, users could access films, TV series, documentaries, fiction, and other exclusive material, possibly also downloadable for offline viewing.
Although the official name of this specific area of the platform is missing, the intent appears evident: to offer YouTube’s vast audience an alternative to services like Netflix.
The other subscription service would instead be aimed at music enthusiasts: it would be the much-discussed – but still entirely unofficial, as it is still in preliminary testing stage – Music Key.
Users will have access to music videos at the highest available quality, without advertising interruptions or banners and without any limitations. The fee, according to The Verge, would be around $9.99 per month, effectively providing a video version of what Spotify, Deezer, and similar music platforms already offer.
The viewing of amateur videos and other types will remain free, exactly as it happens now: in fact, YouTube’s strength lies in this enormous source of videos available to everyone, with a click.
