Nokia and Microsoft: Deal Signed Early, It’s Official

The definitive agreement between Nokia and Microsoft has been officially reached and signed. The announcement was made this morning, with details on the specific skills involved in this partnership aiming to scale the mobile sector.

Last February 11th, we announced the alliance between Nokia and Microsoft, an agreement aimed at regaining ground in the field of smartphones, a thriving and rapidly growing market that hasn’t seen Nokia among its most aggressive competitors.
For its part, Microsoft has tried to insert itself into this vibrancy by offering its operating system Windows Phone 7.
Today brings the official and confirmed news of the agreement already signed between Nokia and Microsoft: a “handshake” that comes earlier than previously communicated by the two companies.
Beyond the terms of mutual collaboration, the press release also clearly discusses a possible launch date for new Nokia smartphones with the Microsoft operating system: in particular, it mentions that “Nokia product development on the Windows Phone platform with the objective of increasing device distribution volumes in 2012”.
In about a year, therefore, we could likely test the first devices resulting from this agreement; terminals that will allow the use of Nokia’s Ovi Maps, with Bing (Microsoft) web search functionalities on Nokia hardware, running Windows Phone.
A great combination, the potential of which we can currently only glimpse: to discuss it fully from an end-user perspective, we will have to wait for the first smartphone models to go on sale, presumably in 2012.
