Nikon Coolpix S800c: Nikon’s Android Camera Arrives

The Android operating system jumps aboard a camera: the chosen one is the Nikon Coolpix S800c. Here are its US price and features, while we await its European price.

Nikon is ready to launch a new camera in September that, unlike others, features a major innovation: it is equipped with the Android operating system, specifically Android Gingerbread 2.3.
This means you can not only take photos or record Full HD (1080p) videos and share them immediately; the real advantage is another: you can download apps and games onto the camera, just like with a smartphone or tablet.
As for the purely photographic features, the Nikon Coolpix S800c is equipped with a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 10x optical zoom, useful for reaching focal lengths from 25 to 250 mm.
Internal memory has been enhanced, not only for saving photos but also to accommodate space for apps and games: 1.7 gigabytes are available.

Everything can be accessed via the 3.5-inch OLED touchscreen.
The presence of GPS technology also allows for geotagging photos.
Obviously, a Wi-Fi connectivity module is also included, as – being Android – an internet connection is needed to download from the Google Play Store.
Regarding the price of the Nikon Coolpix S800c, available in black or white, it is around $350: however, nothing is known about the price the camera might have in Europe.
