A cold shower for those who were waiting for more details about the release of the LG Nexus 4 in Italy: the retail price will be significantly higher than in other countries.
The news of the release of the new smartphoneNexus 4, born from the synergy between LG and Google, has in recent weeks aroused much interest not only in the sector and therefore among industry professionals but also among potential buyers themselves.
However, enthusiasm in Italy has been abruptly dampened by the realization that theprice of the Nexus 4, as learned in the past few hours, will not be as convenient in our country as it is elsewhere.
Compared to the American market, for example, theLG Nexus 4will have a surplus of about 200 euros inpricefor purchase.
The reason is quickly explained: in countries where the new smartphone cannot be purchased directly from the Google Play Store, the device will be sold in stores at a price expected to be between 549 and 599 euros.
This is a significant price increase that has not left potential buyers indifferent, many of whom have decided to leave comments of vehement protest on the LG Italy page, sometimes with rather strong statements.
Such a wide price difference would represent an unprecedented event in terms of sales of Nexus range devices: in the past, taking the Nexus 7 as an example, we have not seen such an increase in the sales price by the manufacturer (in this case, by Asus).
And so, if the price of nearly 600 euros is confirmed, the option of purchase for those looking for a high-end yet affordable device would be out of the question.
However, official confirmation is still lacking, although the staff of the websiteAndroidworld.it has contacted LG itselfto learn more, receiving a partial admission in response, though without specifying the sales price in Italy.
In the response published by the aforementioned website, it is indeed stated that the price of $349 for the 16 GB Nexus 4 relates only to purchases on the Play Store in countries where it is possible to purchase not only apps and books but also hardware.
Therefore in Italy, as well as in other countries in the same situation, the offline price will necessarily be higher“.
Clarifications on the official figures are therefore awaited, but the news of the discrepancy between the two market segments appears to be fully confirmed by LG itself.
