Microsoft is back with new tablets, unveiling them at a dedicated presentation event held in New York a few hours ago.
The protagonist for the consumer sector is the Surface 2, which, compared to its predecessor, boasts more than one new feature.
First and foremost, from a design perspective, the Surface 2 is thinner than the previous model, gaining a slight reduction in weight: one might say this isn’t a fundamental detail but it’s certainly considerable.
The display, however, has taken a significant leap forward, now being Full HD with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and 1080p.
The heart of the Surface 2 also beats differently, so to speak: it features the Core i5-4200U processor (HD4400 GPU), boosting performance by about 20% and increasing – on paper, by 75% – battery life with an improved battery.
The operating system is, of course, Windows 8.1, the chip is an Nvidia Tegra 4, and the available RAM is 2 GB.
As for internal storage, there are two options to choose from: 32 or 64 GB.
The cameras have also been improved: the main camera is 5 megapixels, while the front camera is 3.5 megapixels.
The officially announced price of the Surface 2 at the moment is for the US market only, starting at $499, depending on the preferred version.
