It appears that Microsoft is also interested in the acquisition of Skype: this is what has emerged in recent hours, although the news has not yet found official voices to support the hypothesis.
Just a couple of days ago, we discussed the tug-of-war between Facebook and Google, interested in acquiring Skype. The scenario already seemed well-defined with the clash between two web giants, but in these very hours, a third contender appears to be emerging: Microsoft.
According to some rumors, proposals have also arrived from Redmond headquarters, delivered to Skype, making the acquisition game even more vibrant.
Microsoft, in fact, would seem to be available for both a total acquisition (Facebook‘s goal) and the creation of a sort of joint venture (what Google would prefer to realize).
In practice, Microsoft is showing readiness for anything to enter the negotiation, at least according to the source of this scoop, the GigaOm website, which promises news on this matter very soon, perhaps even today.
Did Microsoft negotiate in total secrecy and then suddenly announce victory over Facebook and Google? We’ll see in the coming hours.
The fact is that if Microsoft succeeds in this endeavor, it would gain incredible potential to support the not-so-fortunate Windows Phone 7. And rosy scenarios are already emerging in the context of the agreement between Nokia and Microsoft, another area where Skype would make a significant indirect contribution.
In reality, it would be the business market that would tempt Microsoft the most, which, with the strength of Skype, could give a hard time to Google and Cisco, two very strong competitors.
We await further details, as all companies involved in the negotiations continue to refuse to comment and hide behind firm “No comments.”
