Messenger to Close in March and Move to Skype: Official Date

Microsoft Live Messenger, the instant messaging service from MSN, will permanently shut down in March, with all services transitioning to Skype: here is the official date and procedure.

Last November on FullPress, we anticipated the news of the closure of Microsoft Live Messenger, and now the official date for the discontinuation of MSN’s instant messaging service has arrived.
Messenger will cease to function on March 15, 2013, and will be retired, leaving all communication management to Skype.
Starting today, you can begin to migrate to Skype without losing your contacts from Microsoft Live Messenger.
You will be able to log into Skype using your MSN credentials.
The system will then ask which Skype account you wish to link to the Messenger account you just entered, effectively creating a joint entry on both platforms.
This way, you will find all your Microsoft Live Messenger contacts also on Skype.
Naturally, you can continue to use the MSN service normally until March 15, 2013; after that date, the system will return an error message.
The communication landscape is now contested by a few select players, especially since the advent of mobile applications has shifted the focus to even more fluid and immediate communication.

Also not to be underestimated is the news of voice conversations on Facebook: soon it will be possible not only to exchange short voice messages via Facebook Messenger but, according to rumors, it will also be possible to make free calls with the app of the largest social network.
Microsoft is therefore responding – and has been for some time – by acquiring Skype and consequently strengthening its chat and video chat services, precisely in the direction of Skype itself, the leader in this particular sector.
