The life of Mega, the encrypted file sharing platform designed by Kim Dotcom, continues regularly and is, in fact, still growing and improving.
To facilitate the use of all services offered on Mega, it has been decided that registered users will be able to use Bitcoin.
This is a well-known and widely used virtual currency, also accepted by services like “WordPress”, to provide a big, widely recognized name that adheres to the Bitcoin circuit.
Just a few days ago, the news broke that the social news platform “Reddit” has also implemented a payment system using this particular electronic currency, which is therefore increasingly widespread.
The virtual currency will be used, in particular, on Mega to purchase additional cloud storage space or to expand bandwidth.
However, it should be specified that the seller will not be Mega itself, as its profession is that of a sharing platform: bitcoin will be used to access services offered by other vendors, such as bitvoucher.co, an authorized reseller by Mega.
This is precisely a provider of extra storage that, for half a bitcoin per month, allows the purchase of an additional 500 GB of data storage, 1 TB of bandwidth, and a series of other services.
Regarding the bitcoin-to-dollar conversion rate, it is noted that 1 bitcoin is equivalent to 20 dollars at the current exchange rate.
Virtualizing money seems to be the path chosen by many web giants, albeit in different forms: it is recalled, in fact, that Amazon has also decided to launch a project for purchases with virtual currency. However, in this case, the decision was not to refer to third-party services, such as Bitcoin, but to create a “proprietary” currency which, in Amazon’s case, is called Amazon Coin.
