For now, it’s just a prototype, but Lytro Illum, the name of the camera that promises to revolutionize the world of photographic images, will soon be in production. The specialty of the Lytro Illum lies in a new technology capable of understanding not only the amount of light stored but also the “type” of luminosity. This information is subsequently reprocessed.
Thanks to this new plenoptic camera, there will no longer be the problem of out-of-focus photos because the perspective can be modified even afterward. The Lytro Illum has a form very similar to bridge cameras, a 30-250mm lens, a movable touchscreen monitor (800×480), a remote control, a tripod mount, a flash hot shoe, and memory slots, running on Android.
The sensor of the Lytro Illum is the same size as the Nikon 1‘s, namely 1″, which translates into practical terms into greater detail and size (four times larger). The Lytro Illum has 5 megapixels in two dimensions (40 angular megarays), sufficient for post-production of three-dimensional or animated images.
The Lytro Illum is a product conceived by the Californian startup Lytro. It is not distributed, at least for now, in Italy but is available in Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, and France. Pre-order price: $1,499.00, while from July the price will increase by about $100.
