Google opens its first store in London: here is the exact address and what can be found there, beyond the devices.
Google is venturing into the offline world and, alongside its online shop, is opening a true physical space. The city chosen for this worldwide launch is London, and the inauguration took place yesterday, Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Curious individuals and potential buyers can now visit Tottenham Court Road and enter the department store “Currys PC World”: Google has indeed utilized the spaces of the main brand to begin its “experiment” in direct-to-consumer sales. This is not the absolute first time the Mountain View giant has attempted a physical retail presence; four years ago, Google set up a temporary store, also in London. However, this time the commercial strategy appears to be entirely different, not solely focused on devices. Within Google’s Tottenham Court Road store, spaces have been set up allowing anyone to “immerse” themselves in the diverse Mountain View universe: for example, you can draw or write on the Doodle Wall; you can use Google Earth on larger displays; you can watch videos using a “Chromecast Pod.”
Naturally, all products – from Nexus smartphones to tablets, Chromebooks, and Chromecast dongles – are available to visitors on display counters, for testing and trying out functionalities before purchasing. And, quite obviously, the added value of this initiative will be the pre- and post-sales assistance, provided by staff present in the store. This is the debut; future Google stores might not only multiply in other locations worldwide but, more importantly, could lead to the creation of dedicated spaces for special events, lessons, and various types of courses. All in Google’s style.
