Google Maps Live Transit Update, Public Transport Monitoring

To know if a public transport bus is delayed, Google Maps offers a solution: it’s Live Transit Update, the new feature just integrated into a portion of Google Maps.

Google has introduced Live Transit Update, a new feature integrated within Google Maps. This is a completely new development focused on monitoring public transport: stops related to the public bus routes are all displayed along the path of the individual vehicle.
By clicking on the stop indication, users can consult the public transport schedule and any delays to the timetable.
This means that Google Maps’ Live Transit Update is constantly updated and can detect traffic conditions and any schedule changes.
As with all Google products, the launch represents an initial trial being rolled out in a limited number of cities: in this case, four cities have been chosen, including an Italian provincial capital. This is a small distinction given that there are only six cities in total, two of which are in Europe.
Google Maps’ Live Transit Update is indeed active on our continent in Turin and Madrid, while in the United States, San Diego, Boston, San Francisco, and Portland have been selected.
An innovation that suggests the ever-increasing importance of the mobile sector and mobile connections; that’s not all: according to rumors, a working version of this product offline is reportedly in development, which would be very useful and potentially capable of competing with much more famous satellite navigation systems, such as TomTom or Nokia’s Ovi Maps.
While waiting to fully experience Google Maps’ Live Transit Update, we can start to get an idea of it through the presentation video.
