Google announces the Doodle contest for Google: Italy in 150 years, aiming to create a doodle dedicated to Italy’s historic birthday. Here’s who can participate and how.
On the occasion of the celebrations for the 150 years of the unification of Italy, also Google has decided to commemorate this event by dedicating a special contest: starting “Doodle for Google: Italy in 150 years“.
It is an art contest that calls together Italian schools: classes from elementary schools, lower secondary schools, and upper secondary schools can participate.
Under the supervision of teachers, students will be able to create a doodle that reflects their idea of Italy projected over the next 150 years. A sort of “prediction” or rather hope for what our country will become in the future, without overlooking Italy’s current heritage, especially the artistic one. To inspire them, Google has provided a virtual tour of Italy, specially created for this year of such important events for our country.
Each school can submit up to a maximum of 10 doodles, which can be made by individual students or groups. Google requires parental consent in the case of minor participants.
The contest will begin tomorrow, April 21, and the deadline for submitting doodles is June 10. At this point, a first ranking will be created by a jury whose members are already known: a representative from MIUR, Lorenzo Jovanotti, Giovanni Minoli, and Anna Mattirolo (director of the Maxxi museum in Rome). The 10 best doodles will be selected for each school category, for a total of 30 finalist doodles.
Then a much larger and broader jury will come into play: the internet public. Everyone will be able to express their preference from June 27 to September 15, 2011, contributing to the choice of the best doodle dedicated to the 150 years by voting at the address www.google.it/150anni/doodle.
The doodle that wins will be published on the home page of Google.it on September 30, 2011, for 24 hours. Furthermore, the school from which the winning doodle will come will receive 25,000 euros in technological equipment, thanks to sponsorship by HP. Finally, the three “finalist” doodles, one from each school category, will be awarded Google gadgets and HP laptops.
