Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server 4.5 and Adobe Flash Media Interactive Server 4.5 are ready, and the biggest new feature is the inclusion of Flash support on iOS devices.
iPhone owners know it well: many contents are not accessible because Apple has not included Flash support in iOS. The same fate befalls iPad users and, in general, those we could call “iDevices“. Today, however, something has changed: Adobe has announced the arrival of two new products that bypass the restriction without acting on the device in any way, thus allowing the use of Flash on Apple devices.
The enablers of all this are Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server 4.5 and Adobe Flash Media Interactive Server 4.5.
In simple terms, when a Flash content needs to be opened, the Adobe product instantly recodes the file, thus modifying the protocol to what is accepted by iOS: in the specific case of Apple devices, HTTP Live Streaming.
Before celebrating, however, it should be specified that the solution is not free at the moment, nor is it within everyone’s reach: to access this novelty, you will need to pay the price of $4500 for Adobe Flash Media Interactive Server 4.5 and around $1000 (a little less, actually) for Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server 4.5.
This is the cost of the “Flash package” for iPhone or iPad: a decidedly high figure, without detracting from the product’s features.
Furthermore, there is a limitation: at the moment, the viewing capability is offered only for videos and not for banners or various animations.
In short, a solution of definite value but destined for a few, at least currently.
