Amazon, monthly subscription for e-books under consideration

Amazon is studying a monthly e-book subscription: by paying a certain amount, users will be able to read a fixed number of e-books. Negotiations with publishers are ongoing.

Amazon is considering monthly subscriptions: this is the new model that it seems set to adopt to make e-books more accessible to everyone.
Negotiations with publishers are already underway, and many of them are showing favor towards the idea, especially since it appears that initially Amazon might also include older titles in its catalog.
However, controversies are not absent: some publishers are indeed expressing strong doubts, related to the fear that a flat-rate subscription with a set number of books available to read each month could devalue the economic worth of e-books themselves.
Another concern revolves around the potential negative reaction from other players in the sector, such as retail chains or traditional bookstores.
Therefore, the Amazon subscription is still being finalized, but the model appears clear: in exchange for a monthly fee, users will have the ability to download and read a specific number of titles.
Nothing is known about the possible price, but it is probable that, at least in the initial phase, the experimentation might start with Amazon Prime subscribers, i.e., those users who currently pay $79 per year to benefit from free shipping and access to multimedia content in the catalog.
The possibility of subscribing to an Amazon e-book subscription could become much more interesting during the autumn, when Amazon’s tablet arrives: there is also the possibility being studied of allowing the consumption of content such as newspapers or magazines, to be browsed directly on Amazon’s new “tablet“.
A noteworthy integration that could revolutionize the traditional publishing market, arriving on tablets.
