Facebook’s Verified Accounts is here with the sole purpose of verifying genuine profiles, especially those of the most well-known figures. Facebook fake page owners are trembling.
It’s called Verified Accounts and it’s the new service launched by Facebook to ensure that a profile is genuine. Following in the footsteps of what Twitter and Google+ already do, Facebook is also concerned with protecting profiles, especially those of famous personalities, and it does so with this new initiative.
What does Verified Accounts consist of?
Facebook’s new service will contact profile managers, starting with the most well-known and those with the largest number of fans, asking them to provide information useful for identifying their real identity. In practice, it will be sufficient to send a photocopy of an identity document to prove that you are Madonna rather than Barack Obama (just to give an example).
Who will receive the Verified Accounts notice?
Initially, the notice will be sent to the most important accounts because it is primarily well-known personalities who are targeted by fake pages. It is not known if the verification will be extended to all Facebook users; in that case, it would be a very time-consuming task.
However, returning to the topic of this article, for those who visit fan pages, there will be a way to immediately understand if the page is official or created by a trickster, as all verified pages will have a badge that is easily recognizable by the reader, in addition to gaining greater visibility (as announced by Facebook).
On the sidelines of this new feature, Facebook also announced another service. This is the extension of the Timeline to business pages. It clearly works very well for personal pages. At least according to the social network’s parameters, which do not always align with those of users.
