The Dell XPS 13 will go on sale in autumn: the ultrabook with Linux Ubuntu will arrive in specific markets.
In autumn, what has been called Dell’s Project Sputnik will take concrete shape: during that period, the Dell XPS 13, the ultrabook equipped with Linux Ubuntu, will be released for sale.
Not much is known yet about the sales price or the geographical areas within which the new devices will be distributed, but, on the contrary, many technical details are already known, officially confirmed by Dell’s own laboratories.
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS will be at the heart of this ultrabook, which will feature a 13.3-inch Gorilla Glass screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
The exterior will be made of aluminum alloy, carbon fiber, and plastic components: the result will be a combination of lightness, elegance, and clean lines in its shape and design.
The keyboard will be backlit, the touchpad is entirely touch-sensitive (thus without any physical buttons), and there are two USB ports available.
However, there is no slot for microSD cards.
Regarding memory, 4 GB of RAM and internal storage of either 128 GB or 256 GB should be confirmed.
Dell is betting on the Dell XPS 13 with Linux Ubuntu ultrabook as an optimal tool for developers and, specifically, as the ultimate device for cloud work.
As soon as more precise data regarding the target markets and the price of the Dell XPS 13 becomes available, we will certainly revisit the topic for a timely update.
