Chrome overtakes Firefox and adds gamepad support

The development team at Chrome, while announcing the possibility of gamepad support, celebrates overtaking Firefox.

Chrome is experiencing a period of great growth and development, both in terms of new applications and features introduced, and concerning its seemingly unstoppable and increasingly evident spread.
News has just arrived about overtaking Firefox: Chrome has indeed settled at a strong 25.47% of users who have chosen to use Google’s browsing browser.
Firefox, on the other hand, according to the latest reports, appears to be at 25.31%. A truly negligible percentage difference that certainly cannot be called a record, however, it is an important signal not to be underestimated.
If we add that Internet Explorer has instead fallen below the 50% threshold, it is easy to understand how much ground Chrome has managed to recover since its debut.
While celebrating this new milestone, it is learned that a new feature will soon be made available: Chrome will support gamepads.
The announcement is official, made during the “Develop Conference“, a conference for developers chaired, on behalf of Google, by Paul Kinlan in Liverpool.
Not only gamepads will be automatically recognized, but also webcams and microphones.
This might suggest that the development team is moving towards solutions that do not require plugins, aiming for immediacy and lightness.
What seems to be already sparking developers’ imagination is the – now evident – entry of Chrome into the cloud gaming sector: a rich and attractive market that will certainly be exploited by those interested.
Although this was discussed during an official event, no launch date for the service has been revealed, but it is tentatively estimated for early 2012.
