Hardcore gamers are scouring the web for news about the upcoming Kinect 2. It’s now understood that Microsoft has so greatly improved the device’s ‘seeing’ capabilities that the next step will be interpreting lip movements.
Kinect 2 will therefore be able to read lips: this is learned from the online magazine Eurogamer, which reports the scoop citing an anonymous yet very well-informed source.
If this hypothesis already seems extraordinary – not to say almost science fiction – the fact that the same source even speaks of a system that will allow Kinect 2 to understand the player’s state of mind and mood will not leave you indifferent.
Something that might suggest there’s a grain of truth in these teasers actually exists: it’s a video made by the staff working on Xbox and Kinect, recently put online, viewable at the end of this article.
At first glance, the images may seem decidedly ‘inflated,’ more symbolic than factual in meaning. However, if the just-announced rumors prove true, this video would take on a completely different meaning.
Finally, it is learned that it is very likely that in the coming months Kinect will be sold together with Xbox 360, thus becoming a ‘standard’ accessory, absolutely essential for the complete experience offered by the Microsoft console.
To know if these rumors will remain such or if they will find confirmation instead, we will have to wait some time yet: there is talk of a new Kinect release during 2012 but, given the still low level of information, it might be the second half of 2012, in the best-case scenario.
