The Asus Padfone has become a reality: after the rumors, the official announcement has arrived. The Asus Padfone is not simply a smartphone, nor is it just a tablet. It is actually a hybrid composed of two devices.
Asushas officially launched theAsus Padfone, on the occasion of theComputex 2011 in Taipei. It would be an understatement to call thePadfone asmartphone: the device is also atablet.
One goes astray even if you think of atablet that offers the ability to make calls: theAsus Padfone actually consists of two parts that, one inside the other, interact and become a third, more complete device.
In practice, thesmartphone can be inserted into a dedicated housing on the back of the tablet, which would otherwise not function.
So, while thesmartphone is independent, the tablet, on the other hand, is not, thus acting as an evolved docking station.
Let’s analyze both elements, although very little information has been disclosed about them so far:
– thesmartphone is based onAndroid and features a 4.3-inch touchscreen. It also has a webcam, and regarding the camera, it should be a 5-megapixel one.
– the tablet also runs on Android and has a 10.1-inch touchscreen. By joining it with the smartphone, it “comes to life” but also manages to recharge the battery of its younger sibling.
The official information stops here: Asus has not revealed any further details or indicative prices.
Similarly, an release date for the new device is not yet known, but it is likely that more will be known soon. Here is the demo video of Asus Padfone released by Asus.
