Apple iWatch increasingly close: name registered in Japan

Apple registers the name “iWatch”: therefore, the interactive watch exists. For now, confirmation comes from Japan.

We have repeatedly mentioned the possibility of the upcoming release of an Apple-branded device similar to a watch but interactive.
What has always been called iWatch is effectively a product in the launch phase, as we learn today that Apple has registered the name of the new device.
It’s recent news that the trademark “iWatch” has been registered in Japan by the Cupertino-based company, after applying for it with the relevant “Japan Patent Office” on June 3rd.
Just as with iPod, the world learned of the existence of this device precisely from the consideration that Apple had requested to register its name and patent.
Therefore, we expect the official release of iWatch not long from now.
We also learn that the same trademark recognition procedure has been initiated in other countries as well, such as Taiwan and Mexico.
Apple’s strategy is clear: a move like this prevents the company from opening potential legal disputes to protect the name of the next device.

Nothing else is known about iWatch: it’s too early to have details on the technical specifications and even on the presumed release period.
What is clear is that the Cupertino company is evidently about to enter the interactive personal gadget market, a new frontier of mobility also pursued by other companies, such as Sony with the new Sony SmartWatch 2.
