In the American market, consumers have no doubts: Android smartphones are the most desired devices. Here are the details of the Nielsen research that brought this data to light.
The Android system for smartphones is at the top of user preference for devices in the United States: this is the data emerging from a Nielsen study conducted on the American sales market.
Google’s operating system thus wins the esteem of smartphone users in the United States, capturing a strong 29% of total sales.
iOS and BlackBerry OS follow in a tie with approximately 27%, while, as Franco Califano would say, “all the rest is boredom”: competitors lag far behind the winners of this ranking. Microsoft and its Windows Phone 7 are at 10%, Palm WebOs stands at 4%, while Nokia’s Symbian barely reaches a meager 2%. It is precisely from the Nokia front, that the alliance with Microsoft we spoke about a few weeks ago could bring new vitality to a company that has failed to keep pace with a rapidly expanding market.
The Nielsen survey was conducted between November 2010 and January 2011, therefore during the height of the Christmas gift-giving season. It is possible to note – also from the accompanying photo of this article – that among Android smartphones, HTC garners the most preference, followed by Motorola, Samsung, and other vendors.
However, it should be specified that this data refers to the *platform*, because when focusing instead on smartphone sales numbers, RIM and Apple continue to dominate, with BlackBerry and iPhone.
