Amazon is reportedly developing a plan to handle its own shipments with a proprietary service.
Amazon continues its plans not only to maintain its ground in e-commerce but also to provide increasingly global services to its customers.
In these hours, it is learned that the leaders of the internet sales giant are reportedly studying new solutions regarding the shipping sector.
The ever-active and generally well-informed Bloomberg newsroom has indeed published an article explaining that they have come into possession of internal and confidential documents from Amazon staff, which indicate that they are seeking an alternative to “classic” shipping providers.
This is not an absolute revelation, as this possibility has been discussed for some time. For months, there have been rumors about Amazon potentially renting airplanes during periods of high shipping volumes (e.g., Christmas) to manage everything directly, thus also saving costs.
However, this time the focus would be on establishing a true, permanent Amazon-branded shipping service, directly competing with UPS and FedEx.
This way, marketplace sellers could also entrust everything to a single “general” carrier, effectively not only simplifying every process but also using a single service that is the same for everyone.
According to these very recent leaks, Amazon is thinking very big: the discussions reportedly involve renting trucks, planes, and ships, and then entrusting packages to fleets of “branded” Amazon vans.
Certainly a very ambitious and worldwide project, which the e-commerce giant has reportedly been working on for at least three years and which, according to Bloomberg, could begin to function – at least partially and experimentally in certain areas – by the end of 2016.
