3D Printer for Kids: Mattel Presents ThingMaker

Mattel presents ThingMaker, the first 3D printer for children.

A very interesting innovation is arriving from the toy sector that will certainly have repercussions in the technology field as well.
Mattel, a historic company involved in children’s games, has introduced “ThingMaker”.
This is the first 3D printer for children: it is indeed a toy but fully functional, just like a real 3D printer.
A tool that will allow children to actively build new toys, thanks to the 3D printing process.
ThingMaker can be used via connection with the official app, available for iOS and Android; through the application called “ThingMaker Design”, in fact, users can select 3D printing projects – about ten are natively available – or they can create something different and more complex.
The announcement comes concurrently with the confirmation that ThingMaker is already available for pre-order on the American platform of the e-commerce giant Amazon.
However, it is important to specify that sales will only begin in the upcoming autumn: ThingMaker could therefore become the object of desire for children (but also for adults) in anticipation of Christmas gifts.

Regarding the price of Mattel’s ThingMaker, at the time of writing, it has been set – again for the US market – at $299.99.
It is not yet possible to know when this 3D printer for children will also arrive in European stores and online shops, including Italy.
