Internet and mobile service on Everest: never without signal again

Even the summit of Everest can now boast internet, mobile, and 3G coverage: even on the highest mountain, never without signal again thanks to the Nepalese telephone company Ncell, a subsidiary of TeliaSonera.

Even at 5,200 meters altitude, there will be a signal to browse and make video calls: 3G connection from Ncell, a Nepalese telecommunications company belonging to TeliaSonera, a well-known Swedish operator, is efficiently responding from Everest.
Pasi Koistinen, CEO of Ncell, speaks with barely concealed pride, explaining that he made a video call from the highest point in the world, Everest. To be precise, the area affected by this sensational step forward is located in the Nepalese district of Solukhumbu.
While this innovation might not mean much to many, just think that thanks to it, satellite phones can be avoided, benefiting the wallet: green light, therefore, for the use of normal phones, with which it will also be possible to access the internet on the 3G network. All this, in any case, will also be an advantage for the population residing in the valley below, in Khumbu.
The next step will be to extend coverage to a large area of Nepal, thus embracing a potential user base of almost 4 million people.
