Facebook is working on virtual reality for smartphones

Virtual reality could soon become an integral part of Facebook: rumors are coming.

Facebook is working on a new project that could integrate a new feature into the world’s most used social platform.
According to increasingly insistent rumors made public by the Wall Street Journal, a new Facebook-branded app entirely dedicated to virtual reality would already be in the testing phase.
Using this new application, users could take advantage of spherical video viewing capabilities directly on their smartphone screen.
A technology that is as “impressive” as it is apparently within everyone’s reach, if the app dedicated to this functionality indeed arrives soon on the devices of Facebook subscribers.
On the other hand, that some aspect of augmented reality technology may sooner or later be linked to the social network user experience is a rather understandable and interesting hypothesis.
Indeed, it should not be forgotten that Facebook not long ago – last year, to be precise – proceeded to acquire the company Oculus, specializing precisely in the development of augmented reality support.

Whether it is therefore a real and proper combination of mutual support between the services of one and the other company or rather simple “speculations” as tests for the amusement of the Facebook staff is not yet possible to establish.
It is known, in fact, that many companies in the hi-tech sector often work on particular and futuristic projects, even going so far as to file patents, without subsequently seeing concrete results for the masses.
Certainly, the news turns out to be quite interesting, for the possible generalized future developments that augmented and virtual reality will be able to have in the daily lives of ordinary people.
