Nikon has officially announced the release of a new full-frame camera: it’s called Nikon D810 and is in fact the successor to the Nikon D800.
It’s precisely from the latter that it inherits several important elements, the starting point upon which to then build and introduce some new features.
The new Nikon D810 is designed with the same sensor as the predecessor model, meaning a 36-megapixel one. However, the newcomer does not feature an anti-aliasing optical filter, it’s FX type and has new microlenses to capture even more light.
The ISO range goes from 64 to 12,800 ISO, which can be extended from a minimum of 32 ISO to a maximum of 51,200 ISO, naturally equivalent.
As for the image processor it was decided to rely on, it’s the EXPEED 4, fast, precise, responsive and always ready.
So much so that it’s also discovered that the speed and quality of burst shooting have been improved: there are now five frames per second achievable when choosing the FX mode.
The Autofocus system – AF Advanced Multi-CAM 3500FX – is also faster, as it utilizes improved grouping of its 51 points (15 of which are cross-type): more precise, it also reacts well in less than optimal conditions, i.e., when the scene has low light.
Sharpness is also enhanced for handheld shots, with reduced micro-blur, thanks to the new set and the new “dialogue” configured for the shutter and mirror box.
Full HD videos have also been improved, now possible in FX and DX modes at 1080 and 60p, with stereo audio mode.
Images can be processed right away using the 1.23 million dot anti-glare LCD display and the Picture Control 2.0 system.
From an aesthetic, ergonomic, and design perspective, no major changes are recorded: nothing has been drastically altered overall.
The price of the Nikon D810 has currently only been announced for the US market and has been set at $3299.
Nothing is yet known about the recommended retail price in Italy, but more information will be received soon, which we will promptly report.
