The brand new file cloud storage system will be available in a few daysfor files, mp3s, ebooks, and various content, this time brandedGoogle: in direct competition with services such as Dropbox, here comesGoogle Drive.
Thedemocratic cloud “for everyone“, according to early rumors, will consist of making at least5 GBavailable to each user, although it remains unclear since nothing official has leaked from Google on this matter yet.
The blogThenextwebtalks about it: one of their contributors – Brad McCarty – announced that he received a press release sent by a Google partner with precise information about Google Drive and how it works.
Apparently, Big G’s new service will be able to run on both Windows machines and Mac terminals, without forgetting mobile devices, whether Android or iOS.
The official launch of this new Google cloud storage feature could happen as soon as next week: although there is no set date, Thenextweb speculates that Wednesday could be the ideal day since – it is said – that day usually brings Google updates.
Another question mark: assuming the possibility to store 5 GB of data completely free of charge, what should be expected if more cloud space is needed? The price for additional GBs of storage is not yet known.
Considering the basic offer alone, that is the 5 GB free for everyone, Google Drive would go straight to being able to compete directly – and hypothetically winning – against Dropbox which currently offers 2 GB.
