Just weeks after the release of the New iPad in Italy, sources close to Apple are once again discussing the company’s next tablet model.
Specifically, there are rumors about the imminent release of an iPad Mini, which, as its name suggests, will feature reduced dimensions compared to the iPad we are accustomed to.
This would be a tablet with a 7.85-inch screen that, in addition to its size, would also see a reduction in price.
The first leaks originated from The Wall Street Journal, but in recent days, other industry news outlets in the United States have also begun discussing it, providing further details on the possible launch date and hypothetical price.
It appears that preparations are already underway for the production of an initial batch of 6 million units, which are expected to reach stores worldwide in the third quarter of 2012.
Regarding the iPad Mini price, estimates range from $249 for the Wi-Fi only version to $299 for the Wi-Fi + 3G model, positioning it to directly compete with tablets such as the Kindle Fire or the new Google tablet, which is set to be released soon.
Nothing has been disclosed regarding the iPad Mini storage capacity, nor about other technical specifications which, it seems, would largely mirror those of the traditional 10-inch iPad version, with the exception of the Retina Display found on the New iPad, which the iPad Mini will likely lack.
Apple’s headquarters remain silent; as usual, they do not comment on such rumors, thus only increasing the curiosity of interested users.
