Facebook Opens to Children

The children registered on Facebook are increasingly numerous, although there is an age limit below which one cannot register for the service. According to some rumors, Zuckerberg would be on the verge of acting to eliminate the age restriction.

The children’s market, as is well known, is always fruitful: Mark Zuckerberg has also fully realized this, determined to welcome younger ones on Facebook.
Just a few days ago we discussed the alarm over minors on Facebook, and here comes very interesting related news: soon the father of the social network may undertake an action designed to lower the minimum age allowed for registration on services of this type.
Remember that currently, one must be at least 13 years old to register on Facebook, but the very research we discussed a few days ago has highlighted that, in reality, the limit is abundantly circumvented by many young people and children.
Mark Zuckerberg stated that “to have a good education, it is necessary to start from a young age”: this would be the reason why the opening of Facebook to the youngest should be seriously considered.
Not for recreational purposes, not for 2.0 sociality, but for education, to better share study materials, research, and everything that revolves around the school sector.
It is fair to wonder if the motivation does not instead lie in the possibility of having an even wider user base, capable of attracting new advertising, but so be it…
When asked about the possibility of lowering the age limit of 13, the patron of FB replied: “Sooner or later we will fight for this too”.
Who would this appeal to? The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, the document drafted to protect children from the dangers they may encounter on the web, would need to be modified.
From Facebook, they assure that the security level will be raised, implementing a series of precautions useful to keep children always safe from unpleasant surprises.
The issue, far from being resolved immediately, will certainly resurface in the coming months: we will carefully follow the development of the topic.
