WordPress 3.0, also known as Thelonious, immediately appears extremely customizable compared to previous versions, thanks also to a particularly rich set of APIs that allows for the implementation of more advanced functions to the base code and for customizing the layout at will (almost without limits). The first characteristic of WordPress 3.0 to highlight is the disappearance of the distinction between CMS for WordPress MU and CMS for “base” WordPress. This means that with the new version, it will be possible to manage both a single blog and a more extensive network of blogs indifferently, extending to the level of a community or blog network.
WordPress 3.0 allows for the insertion of short links directly from the control panel, whose menus can now be organized as desired (another major innovation of the new version).
Posts also mark an evolution: they become customizable. This means that posts can be created in the classic sense, tagged as such. However, should you wish to create more specific pages, with the insertion of additional category fields, the new WordPress 3.0 provides this functionality, effectively making it possible to create specific pages according to the user’s needs and intentions.
On a graphical level, a new theme appears in the backoffice as well, called Twenty Ten (not by chance, given that the new product is launching in 2010) which can replace the canonical blue and white of WordPress.
Many bugs have been fixed: we are talking about a number close to 1200, which was made possible thanks to the reports received over time from developers, webmasters, and designers.
WordPress 3.0 seems to have truly embarked on a new path, oriented towards more advanced web content management: no longer and not only a platform for blogs but an open system for the website as a whole.
