It will soon be possible to make voice calls via WhatsApp. The latest iOS update requests permission to access the microphone.
It has been discussed more than once, but this time it seems very close.
The WhatsApp staff is reportedly about to launch the new voice call feature.
A step awaited by millions of users worldwide who, now loyal users of the instant messaging service, hope to also be able to make free phone calls.
There is no official communication in this regard; as always, we are in the realm of rumors and therefore only possibilities.
However, the hypothesis appears much more realistic this time, considering the latest news and authorizations requested by the most recent update – chronologically – of the application, currently aimed only at iOS users.
It requested access to the microphone in order to send voice messages, record videos with accompanying audio, and make or receive voice calls.
Therefore, although it is not yet materially possible to act in this regard, it is now very clear that the functionality exists, is implemented, and has been implemented, at least, so to speak, at an embryonic level.
It is likely that shortly, within a few weeks at most, a new update will be available for download that could effectively enable voice calls.
The impact of such a novelty can only be disruptive and entirely winning: in this way, with the introduction of the possibility of making free calls via mobile network or Wi-Fi – WhatsApp would truly offer an absolutely complete communication platform, perfect for any type of contact you want to make with people in your address book who, in turn, have WhatsApp installed.
While waiting for this new feature to materialize as soon as possible, similar moves are expected for the extensive Android user base, currently still excluded from the same type of update just discussed for Apple device owners.
