Universal phone chargers become the standard for manufacturers and sellers of mobile phones in Europe. No more tangled wires for multiple chargers: a single universal charger can be useful for multiple phones, provided they are new generation.
A revolution in the telephony sector: from 2011 the universal phone charger becomes a reality. The chosen standard is mini-USB, a connector also very useful for other devices (cameras, camcorders, etc…).
An advantage for users who have more than one mobile phone: besides the convenience of having a single charger for all devices, the benefit is also evident environmentally.
First official guidelines arrive today from Brussels: “the first universal chargers and mobile phones that comply with the new regulations should arrive on the European market during the first months of 2011″ and, we add, the universal charger is compatible with new generation devices with micro-USB. The change in “charging” habits, therefore, will not be immediate but will see its first most evident effects within a couple of years.
Some of the largest telephony manufacturers have adhered since 2009 to the project of the European office for standardization Cen-Cenelec-Etsi: Apple, Emblaze Mobile, Huawei Technologies, LGE, Motorola Mobility, Nec, Nokia, Qualcomm, Research in Motion (Rim), Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Tct Mobile (Alcatel), Texas Instruments and Atmel.
