It is called Sony Xperia Sole but only in Italy: in other countries where it is marketed, this smartphone is called “Sola”. An overview of its price and features here.
Sony has recently introduced a new smartphone – Sony Xperia Sole – which, even before discussing its technical specifications, attracts attention for a curiosity: only in Italy it is called “Sole“, since in the rest of the world it is known as “Sony Xperia Sola“.
“Sola” is slang in Italian that means a rip-off or a scam, and therefore Sony must have thought it wise to change the name, adapting it differently without entirely distorting its original sound.
Beyond this peculiarity, regarding the technological core of this smartphone, it features the 1 GHz dual-core NovaThor U8500 processor and the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, which can be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the coming months, likely not before summer.
An original feature relates to floating touch technology: you can use the touch screen to navigate without actually touching the display, by simply bringing your fingers very close to it. The mechanism works when you want to click a link, which will then be highlighted, and then you can click it.
Speaking of the screen, it is a 3.7-inch full touch display, defined as “Reality Display” with Mobile BRAVIA Engine and has a resolution of 480×854 pixels.
Much attention has been paid to the audio components: xLOUD and 3D surround sound technologies ensure clear and loud audio.
The internal memory is 8 GB but can be expanded via microSD up to 32 GB.
As for the camera, it reaches 5 megapixels with 16x digital zoom, the ability to record HD videos (720p), and autofocus.
Regarding the price of the Sony Xperia Sole, it will be 329 euros according to Sony’s recommendation.
