Sony FE 50mm F1.2 GMincorporates the latest generation of lenses, including three XA (extreme aspherical) elements that help optimize resolution across the entire image, maintaining high levels of sharpness and contrast, even at the maximum F1.2 aperture. Additionally, the new lens captures clear images even with backlit subjects, thanks to Sony’s Nano AR Coating II, which minimizes internal reflections to eliminate flare and ghost effects.
Like all G Master lenses, the new FE 50mm F1.2 GM creates beautiful bokeh effects at its maximum aperture (F1.2), adding a touch of magic to every image. By utilizing an innovative 11-blade circular aperture and meticulous control of spherical aberration, the lens achieves stunning and balanced bokeh effects in both the foreground and background.
High-performance autofocus and tracking at F1.2
The lens keeps subjects perfectly in focus even with extremely shallow depth of field, offering extremely fast, precise, and quiet autofocus and tracking capabilities thanks to four XD (eXtreme Dynamic) linear motors, which ensure efficiency and high power. When ultra-precise focusing is required, especially for 4K video shooting with human eye tracking, the FE 50mm F1.2 GM lens allows users to capture sharp images with excellent responsiveness, minimal delay, and low vibration. Furthermore, the floating “Floating F” focus mechanism, managed by a dedicated algorithm, achieves high resolution throughout the entire range, from infinity to a minimum focusing distance of 0.4m.
Professional-grade control and reliability in a compact form factor
The FE 50mm F1.2 GM lens was designed with professional content creators in mind. Thanks to practical controls and features such as linear response MF (Manual Focus), a focus ring with an on/off switch, a focus mode selector, and two customisable focus hold buttons, the FE 50mm F1.2 GM combines ease of use with professional-level control. The FE 50mm F1.2 GM also boasts a dust- and moisture-resistant design[i], with a fluorine coating on the front element, protecting the lens from fingerprints, dust, water, oil, and other contaminants. Developed using Sony’s most advanced optical design and simulation technologies, the lens is surprisingly lightweight and compact (φ87x108mm, 778g), ensuring excellent freedom of movement and maximum convenience in the 50mm F1.2 category.
