Sony Alpha 99: Its Features

The features of the new Sony Alpha 99 camera have been officially announced: here’s a summary, ahead of its release.

Today Sony has presented several cameras, including the Sony Alpha 99.
It is again a 35 mm full-frame camera equipped with Translucent technology and a 24.3-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor.
Particularly noteworthy is the dual autofocus system with 19 sensors (including 11 cross-type sensors) plus a 102-point autofocus system (focal plane), for extremely detailed and precise photos in all circumstances.
The powerful BIONZ image processor undoubtedly does the rest, also enabling a maximum sensitivity range (in expanded sensitivity mode) from ISO 50 to 25,600, equivalent to 9 stops. The result is a rapid burst of shots while maintaining very high resolution.
Specifically, it achieves a maximum speed of 6 frames per second or 10 fps in High-speed Tele-zoom mode.
All of this proves to be a valuable ally, especially when the subject is in motion.
The lenses supported at launch will be SAL2470Z, SAL2875, SAL50F14, SAL300F28G2, SAL70400G, and SAL500F4G; however, the list may expand with future firmware updates.

Video production also yields good results: it is possible to obtain full-frame Full HD progressive footage at 50p/25p (switchable to 60p/24p). Recording can be uninterrupted, thanks to the dual card support, given the presence of two media card slots in the camera.
Both photographic and video images will always be detailed, also thanks to the XGA OLED electronic viewfinder and, for further control, the three-way, 1.229.000-dot XtraFine LCD screen with WhiteMagic technology.
Ergonomic and easy to grip, it weighs 733g and can optionally count on a valuable accessory, sold separately: the VG-C99AM vertical grip to house and manage up to three batteries.
The planned release of the new Sony Alpha 99 in Italy will be in early November, but its price is not yet known.
