Skype Qik to Close at the End of March 2016

Skype Qik will officially close its doors at the end of March: here’s what you need to know.

Official news arriving from Microsoft environments: on March 24, 2016, Skype Qik will cease to function.
The project – separate from Skype, in many ways – founded on the ability to share video messages has therefore reached its end.
Skype Qik, in fact, is an application launched independently from the more popular Skype service, to allow users to record and send video messages very quickly.
However, it seems that the idea – although appreciated and well-structured – has not captured the hearts of users, who are much more accustomed to utilizing all the complete functions offered by Skype.
The Microsoft staff has therefore acknowledged this reality, deciding not to invest further resources – both financial and temporal – in an application that has not achieved the desired success.
The focus will therefore continue to be on Skype, abandoning this “offshoot” which had a short lifespan, even though its functionality did not present particular problems.
It’s simply a matter of user habits, already well-established, it appears.
Yet, Skype Qik could have offered some advantages: video messages can also be watched offline, while Skype requires a connection to function, as everything happens in real-time.

Furthermore, there is no need to activate a new account for Skype Qik; a simple phone number is sufficient.
In short, despite the features that could have made a difference, the Skype user base has remained loyal to the original system, not giving Skype Qik much of a chance to gain traction.
