Skype video calls are coming to Outlook.com: the service launch in Italy is imminent.
Everything is ready for the integration of Skype within Outlook.com: starting from early summer, this new communication capability will be available in Italy as well.
Currently, the service is in preview version in some selected countries such as the United Kingdom and, in the coming days, also in Germany and the United States.
The trial will then end in the coming weeks, with the distribution likely to occur by the end of June in the rest of the countries, including Italy.
The operation of the new implementation will be very simple and intuitive: by accessing your email inbox on Outlook – therefore, even for @hotmail.com and @hotmail.it addresses – you will be able to see a dedicated box informing you of the possibility to start video calls with online contacts.
Naturally, for this to happen, you will need to have linked your Skype account to your Outlook account, but this step has already been completed by the vast majority of users, following the closure of Hotmail and Live Messenger services in favor of integration into Outlook.com.
The first time you want to initiate a VoIP call, you will have to download a plugin. Subsequently, the process will be automatic, meaning you will no longer have to perform similar downloads.
From that moment on, it will be possible to receive or initiate calls, chats, and video calls on Skype with the advantage of not leaving the Outlook.com Inbox page.
Here is the official presentation video of the new service.
