Skype is currently down worldwide with most of its features: what’s happening?
Around the world, people are wondering what is happening to Skype today.
Since around 10:20 AM this morning, the communication service has not been functioning properly, and the situation appears to be the same globally.
Indeed, tweets asking for information and reporting the service disruption are flooding in from many places, especially since the “outage” seems to be quite extensive, not just geographically speaking.
At the time of writing, Skype is not working either on mobile devices or through the web platform accessible via PC.
Based on what is currently happening, contacts on Skype are no longer visible, as if the contact list had been deleted.
However, in some cases, it seems possible to send private messages anyway, even though contacts appear to be offline.
Group chats are silent, and at times even access is not allowed, with clear connection problems to the servers.
About an hour ago, the situation seemed to be evolving positively, as the contact list reappeared in its place and was correctly displayed, indicating who was online and who was offline.
The biggest problem is the inability to make both VoIP voice calls and video calls. Text services, on the other hand, seem to be working.
However, the service is still not functioning, and what appears even more evident is that – up to this moment – no official communication has been received from the Skype staff regarding the resolution of the problem.
On the official Twitter account @SkypeSupport, all you can read is “We are aware of an issue affecting Skype status at the moment, and are working on a quick fix,” but there are no further updates.
The hashtag that is documenting the users’ situation in real-time these hours is #skypedown.
We will follow the developments throughout the day, hoping to soon report on the complete resolution of the global Skype problem.
UPDATE: The situation returned to normal around 10:00 PM, after approximately 12 hours of global blackout.
