Sigma SD1 Wood Edition: Prohibitive Price for a Luxury DSLR

The price of the Sigma SD1 Wood Edition immediately suggests that we are dealing with a particular and exclusive DSLR.

Sigma SD1 Wood Edition is a decidedly unpopular DSLR, not for everyone: it must be admitted from the outset that this is a camera intended for a lucky few, given its high price.
The difference compared to other DSLRs with similar features or even just compared to its base version (the Sigma SD1) is actually made by the material constituting the camera body: it is made of precious Amboyna Burl root, a very rare and consequently expensive wood.
As if that were not enough, Sigma informs us that the manufacturing process is so detailed and delicate that it requires about 60 hours of manual work for each camera.
All this contributes to inflating the price of the Sigma SD1 Wood Edition, which reaches the figure of 10,000 euros or, for the sake of precision, 9,999 euros. This price refers only to the camera body, not to associated lenses and optics.
The technical specifications include a 46-megapixel Foveon X3 sensor, a three-inch LCD display, the Dual Tree II processor, and an autofocus system.
If even in its base version this DSLR is a camera intended for a niche market, the Wood Edition evidently has ambitions of extreme rarity, given that only 10 units were produced.
