Samsung Series 5 Chromebook does not cause a sensation: the first reviews are unflattering and suggest results below the launch expectations. Obviously, the final judgment is always up to the user, who will evaluate according to their own needs.
I Chromebook, Google’s laptops that promised exceptional performance thanks to the cloud, are receiving their first not-so-positive reviews, from industry insiders.
Currently under the magnifying glass is the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook, reviewed by Laptopmag: the verdict suggests some disappointment compared to expectations, as the rating given is 2.5/5.
The startup speed is definitely there, although the 8 seconds needed to boot the laptop must be added to at least another 6 seconds to connect and start using the web browser.
It takes about 2 minutes, at most 3, to configure the notebook for first use, so in terms of initial performance, everything is as expected.
The exterior appearance doesn’t raise any criticisms either, except exclusively regarding the touchpad which, although it is multitouch, does not appear very smooth when moving the cursor over pages and screens: the responsiveness is therefore low.
Speaking of screens, another sore point is related to the display: the colors were judged by Laptopmag to be less vibrant and lively.
Still on the video side, the webcam does not seem up to par, and the same goes for the sound: the volume is low and the bass is practically non-existent.
The battery does not hold up when using the PC for full-screen video viewing: the power quickly runs out, dashing the promise of long battery life.
In short, the first reviews of the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook are not very flattering: notwithstanding personal usage needs that could find fans in a laptop like this, there remains a first partial consideration regarding the price. 399 euros is probably too much for a notebook that currently performs like this, when there are excellent laptops available on the market for the same price.
Of course, we are only at the dawn of cloud “integrated” in a laptop: this is undoubtedly the way forward, but there is still a long way to go.
