On June 29th, the new Vatican website “News.va” will go live: a portal for official news, images, and videos from the Holy See, initially offered in Italian and English.
All the news coming from the Vatican, minute by minute: starting June 29th, a new web address will be available online. It’s called news.va and it’s the official information and multimedia portal of the Holy See.
The launch of this initiative coincides with two special Vatican milestones: first, June 29th is the feast day of Saints Peter and Paul; second, this year marks the 60th anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI’s priestly ordination.
All official news coming from the Holy See can therefore be accessed through a web platform that will gather press releases, news, statements related to Vatican Radio programs, and video material from the Vatican Television Center.
At least during the initial weeks of its launch, the content on the News.va website will be offered in Italian and English, but work is already underway to expand the available languages, with the introduction of Spanish, German, Portuguese, and French shortly after the summer.
Versions for iPad and iPhone are also planned, as well as Facebook and Twitter channels.
The integration – which is now practically mandatory – with social networks is interesting, and who knows if those experimenting with the Facebook game Vatican Wars won’t start following News.va as well.
This brand-new portal will not in any way modify or replace the historic website of the Holy See, Vatican.va; in fact, expansions to the latter portal are apparently already in progress.
