Vodafone announces the launch of LTE technology in Italy: the 4G network officially arrives in Rome and Milan. More cities in Italy will soon benefit.
We have often discussed new smartphones and tablets ready for ultra-fast connectivity on what are known as LTE or 4G networks.
Until recently, the obligatory premise was to inform users that this technology was not yet available in Italy, meaning the full functionality of the chosen device was not accessible.
The situation is rapidly changing, as something has shifted today regarding the coverage of LTE technology infrastructure.
The 4G network is gradually rolling out to more areas in Italy as telecommunication operators work on its implementation.
Vodafone has just announced that the 4G network will be operational in Rome and Milan starting October 30, 2012.
By March 2013, the mobile operator promises, there will be about twenty cities across Italy where users can navigate on the ultra-fast LTE network.
The arrival of the 4G network in Rome and Milan by Vodafone follows a successful trial period in Ivrea, the first Italian location to be connected on the LTE network using 1800 MHz frequencies.
Another “laboratory city” was Brusson in the Aosta Valley, where work was carried out on the 800 MHz band.
Along with the news of the launch of new high-speed services, Vodafone is also introducing the new Vodafone Internet Key 4G (also available in a Wi-Fi version), with a launch offer starting at 30 euros per month with 15 GB of internet connection included.
Other devices suitable for this type of browsing – already available at Vodafone retail points – include the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 4G tablet and the Mi-fi modem.
