Poste Mobile switches to Wind: will you need to change SIM, how?

**Poste Mobile** has announced a new agreement to **switch to the Wind network**, abandoning Vodafone. **Poste Mobile SIM cards will need to be replaced**.

Major news in the Italian mobile telephony sector: Poste Mobile has just announced a very significant change.
The virtual operator has indeed announced the upcoming termination of its relationship with Vodafone, on whose network Poste Mobile customer communications have “passed” until today.
In the coming months, therefore, Poste Mobile will move to the Wind network, gradually and probably completely by June 2014.
There is no exact date, also because the technical operation is expected to be particularly important and unprecedented: it is the first time such a move has occurred, considering the numbers involved.
We are talking about 3 million users who will be transferred to the Wind network in the coming months.
Poste Mobile wished to clarify that the SIM cards will need to be replaced with new cards: existing customers will be contacted to arrange this SIM change.
For all new customers, however, there will be no transition: they will be directly on the Wind network.

This procedure is not merely relevant from a customer management perspective but, above all, from a technical standpoint it takes on a specific meaning: with this decision, in fact, Poste Mobile will stop being an “Enhanced Service Provider” – meaning a virtual mobile network operator using SIM cards produced by the reference operator, thus Vodafone until today – and will instead become a so-called “Full Mvno“, meaning a complete virtual mobile operator, capable of printing and managing its own SIM cards directly, without “intermediation”.
Poste Mobile customers are therefore advised: they will soon be contacted for the SIM card change, pending the complete rollout of the network switchover.
