Panasonic Eluga, ultra slim Android smartphone

Panasonic Eluga: this is the name of Panasonic’s new high-end smartphone, arriving soon in Europe. Extremely thin and water-resistant, here’s a summary of its features.

Panasonic has decided to enter the smartphone sector in Europe with a device that, at least on paper, appears very attractive: it is called Panasonic Eluga and will soon be distributed in the Old Continent.
The first feature that catches the eye is undoubtedly the thinness: Eluga is only 7.8 millimeters thick across the entire body of the device.
Another element that draws attention is the size of the screen compared to the overall dimensions of the smartphone: the display alone covers 66% of the total surface of the device, being a 4.3-inch OLED QHD screen (960Ă—540).
This is significant, especially considering two other parameters: the very light weight (only 103 grams) and the resistance to dust, scratches, and water.
Indeed: the Eluga smartphone is also waterproof and can withstand up to 30 minutes in one meter of water.
As for the rest, it is noted that initially the operating system available will be Android 2.3.5 but later an update will be released to bring the device to Android Ice Cream Sandwich. All this should happen during the second half of 2012, not before.
The processor chosen for Eluga will feature a 1 GHz dual-core processor from Texas Instrumentswhich, while quite powerful, will not significantly impact battery performance. This is also because this smartphone can be set to “eco” mode to ensure energy saving and to shut down functions that are not strictly necessary, especially when the battery is nearly depleted.
In terms of the multimedia section, it’s worth noting the presence of an 8-megapixel camera with automatic autofocus.

The internal memory available will be 8 GB and, another interesting note, Eluga can communicate with other devices thanks to the “Swipe and Share” function, for Wi-Fi transmission of images or videos to send to your TV, for example.
Similarly, by activating the “Viera Remote App,” it will be possible to use Eluga like a remote control for Viera TVs, cameras, home cinema systems, players, and various compatible devices.
So far, this is what is known before its release in April, at a price which – although not yet official – is estimated to be around 450 euros.
