Nokia Normandy will it be the first Nokia Android smartphone? The previews are becoming insistent.
A decidedly very interesting piece of news is arriving from the digital pages of the always well-informed The Verge: apparently Nokia is reportedly working on the next release of its first Android smartphone.
Nokia Normandy – this is the possible name of the hypothetical device – could be ready in the coming months, complete with an unprecedented operating system for the Finnish company.
Up until now, in fact, Nokia smartphones have been equipped with OS made in Microsoft (Windows Phone), due to an important partnership, which in recent months turned into a real acquisition by the Redmond-based company.
Therefore, talking about a Nokia smartphone with Android on board seems very strange, but apparently, according to the latest rumors from The Verge, it could be possible.
However, it must be said that the project seems to relate to a non-pure Android version but with customizations, similar to what happens, for example, on Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
This would give users the advantage of accessing the vast catalog of apps and content from Google’s Play Store, without Nokia – however – giving up its customizations which – who knows – might perhaps make the design less indigestible for Microsoft.
Nokia Normandy does not appear to be an entirely new model: during the month of November, in fact, a new and quite basic Nokia device was posted on the Twitter account @evleaks . At the time, however, the Android hypothesis was not considered, although it was already hinted at not many weeks before – therefore not suspect times with respect to the image release – by the columns of the New York Times.
Rumors are therefore circulating freely, although the companies involved are neither denying nor confirming.
Regarding its possible market placement, there is talk of a mid-to-low-end segment, with a low-cost price and basic features, corresponding to what Asha for Nokiawhich, while being good solutions, suffer from a lack of a good number of compatible apps.
Since these are hypotheses and elements not supported by official communications, we can only wait for the coming months to understand if and when the Nokia Normandy will be released.
