Mozilla Firefox 5, download now available

**Mozilla Firefox 5** is available for **download**, with the – contained – new features of the new version. Released in a significantly shorter time compared to its older sibling 4, **Firefox 5** is also available for mobile.

The Mozilla Foundation has announced that Firefox 5 is available for download: the new version doesn’t differ much from Firefox 4, although some major new features worthy of note have been introduced.
The first is the correction of some critical issues in the Do Not Track system, the feature designed to prevent tracking during browsing sessions; the second concerns the introduction of support for what are defined as animated CSS.
Furthermore, both speed and memory usage performances have improved, and with Firefox 5, it is lighter, to the full advantage of general performance. Corrections and improvements can also be noted regarding compatibility with Xhr, MathMl, and Smil standards.
Also the HTML5 support sees some improvements, in line with general standards which – in this case – seem to be guided by what Google Chromedoes, the benchmark and also the main competitor at the moment for Firefox.
It’s no coincidence that Firefox 5 has already seen the light of day: after much struggling for the release of version 4, Mozilla has undoubtedly put the turbo on the development operations for the final release of Firefox 5.
Google Chromeis, in fact, rapidly gaining users and therefore positions in the navigation browser landscape, and thus Firefox can no longer afford delays or postponements in release dates.
Exactly as announced, today, June 21st, Firefox 5 he was not caught off guard and the download actually started.
Availability is planned for all versions: Windows, Mac, and Linux, not to mention the mobile version as well.
Nothing extremely new to report graphically and there is still no trace of the new PDF reader that was quietly mentioned but is very likely to appear in future versions.
One might object that Firefox resembles a bug fix release more than a product packed with new features, however – if you consider Mozilla’s upcoming releases – it couldn’t be otherwise, notwithstanding the above-mentioned innovations, which are certainly not negligible. On the horizon, in fact, the next steps are beginning to emerge that will lead to the release of Firefox 8 by the end of the year or by January 2012 at the latest. Given the current situation, in fact, the first beta of Firefox 6 could be ready by mid-July.
At the FTP link you can download Firefox 5.
